Objectives
Both the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma programs are purpose-designed
for intelligence officers and managers already in the intelligence, investigation
and/or security professions, as well as for those seeking to make their
careers in these areas.
The programs are designed to be relevant to people in business and industry
as well as in government.
Typically, those who take up these courses of study will:
- have already completed vocational training and/or studies in operational
intelligence analysis techniques;
- be seeking a solid foundation in intelligence analysis theory and
practice focusing on strategic studies and major national operations;
- be wanting to advance their personal levels of knowledge and skill
as managers of intelligence organizations.
Graduate Certificate in Intelligence
The Graduate Certificate in Intelligence program focuses on intelligence analysis
techniques and their application at an operational level.
The duration of the Graduate Certificate in Intelligence program, by distance-learning mode,
is one year minimum, although this may be reduced subject to any agreed credits.
The four GCI units (below) comprise the curriculum of the Graduate
Certificate in Intelligence.

Units GCI-1 and GCI-2 together form the classroom-based course Intelligence
Analysis Techniques (IAT) conducted by Istana and the Intelligence
Study Centre group for clients worldwide.
Students successfully completing the IAT course will be granted
full credits against GCI-1 and GCI-2 should they decide to continue
with distance studies towards the Graduate Certificate in Intelligence
OR the Diploma of Intelligence Practice & Management.
Graduate Certificate in Strategic Analysis & Intelligence
Management
The Graduate Certificate in Strategic Analysis & Intelligence Management
program is the next logical step in the progression of intelligence education.
It builds upon the knowledge gained from other intelligence studies (for example,
the Graduate Certificate in Intelligence), and applies a focus on strategic
issues analysis.
The program empowers students to design and conduct strategic assessments
of topics at organizational, State or national levels, as well as preparing
managers, supervisors and executives for the challenges of organizing and
running intelligence units.
The duration of the Graduate Certificate in Strategic Analysis & Intelligence
Management program, by distance, is one year minimum, although this may
be reduced subject to any agreed credits.

OR the Diploma of Intelligence Practice & Management.
Graduate Diploma in Intelligence Practice & Management
The Graduate Diploma award is granted to students who complete both Graduate
Certificate programs plus a dissertation.
The duration of the Graduate Diploma in Intelligence Practice & Management
program, by distance, is two years and four months minimum, although this
may be reduced subject to any agreed credits.

between the College and the student.
